WHAT IS A SPORTS INJURY RISK ASSESSMENT
A sports injury risk assessment is essentially like an MOT but for your body. It is designed for people who play sports to learn more about any risk factors or attributes that may make them more vulnerable to certain injuries. They can then find out what they can do about them to lower their injury risk.
Before your appointment you will be asked to complete a questionairre. Questions you will answer include things like your what your sport is, the level you play at and your current training regime etc. You will also be asked about any previous injuries or concerns you may have. This information is really valuable for the physio to see prior to your assessment as it will help guide what they specifically look at.
When you come in for your appointment your highly qualified and specialised physiotherapist will perform various assessments on you. This may include assessing joint range of motion, muscle length, muscle strength and motor control.
They will then combine this with the information you provided with them before your appointment to discuss factors which may make you more vulnerable to injury. They will then suggest exercises which you could do to lower your chances of getting injured down the line.
Cost is £30 for a 30 minute assessment which will include your personalised management plan.

DOES IT WORK?
If you do the exercises that you are provided with, could you still get injured? Lets be straight here, the answer is still yes. There is no way to 100% prevent all injuries. If you could then there would never be an injuries in elite sport for example.
There is no way you can prevent all injuries but what you can do is reduce the risk as much as possible. In fact many of the exercises that we use and the advice we give have an evidence base which shows their effect in reducing injury rates.
One example would be a simple nordic hamstring exercise has been shown to reduce rates of hamstring injuries by 50%. Who wouldn't want to reduce the chances of getting a hamstring strain by that much. The effect is likely to be even more powerful if you are found to be weak or tight in that area.
So we cannot guarantee you won't get injured but we can guarantee by following our advice you are doing all you can to reduce that chance. Do you really want to miss chunks of your season, watching from the sidelines?
